Tanner is a bilingual Mechanical Engineer (BE Hons) with hands-on experience across manufacturing, additive manufacturing, solar energy, and engineering problem solving. He has worked on additive manufacturing projects in Taipei, consulted on solar systems in New Zealand, and gained practical experience in logistics and trade.
While completing his degree, Tanner navigated the loss of his mother at age 21 whilst also caring for his grandmother, managed a complex High Court case, and ultimately won the 2 year long High Court battle, setting the precedent that the deceased does not have a moral duty to provide for their partner under their will. Its impact was significant enough to place his story on the front page of the New Zealand Herald, all while graduating with honours — a testament to his resilience, discipline and unwavering focus.
The judgment in his case went on to reshape the legal approach later applied in Christiansen v Jackson [2024], influencing how family claims are argued and assessed in New Zealand.
A lifelong learner, aviation enthusiast, and Grade 7 alto saxophonist, Tanner approaches engineering with curiosity, innovation, and a commitment to delivering impactful solutions.
